Nicholas Crossland is a board-certified Veterinary Anatomic Pathologist. He shares a dual appointment as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at Boston University School of Medicine and an Investigator at the NEIDL. His primary responsibility is managing an experimental comparative pathology service that safely and efficiently operates in biosafety levels 3 and 4 (BSL3/4). His specialization is in the characterization of translational animal models to elcudidate our understanding of pathogenesis and serves as a platform for evaluating medical countermeasures. His lab space is also open to graduate students from the Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Department where he provides mentorship in the development and optimization of multiplex immunohistochemistry and in situ hybridization techniques to answer biological questions with retention of spatial context. He is actively exploring collaborative opportunities with other BUMC faculty members to develop and validate deep learning computational approaches to quantitatively characterize morphomolecular signatures of disease and correlate findings with clinical datasets.
