Lei Tian’s is an Associate Professor with appointment in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering and Biomedical Engineering. He is also an affiliated faculty of the Center for Information & Systems Engineering. Tian’s research focuses on Computational Imaging, which is a new optical imaging design paradigm that emphasizes tight integration between physical optics and algorithms. Specifically, his Ph.D. work develops “compressive imagers” for 3D (holographic and tomographic) systems using wave optics. His current research focuses on Computational Microscopy, which uses patterned illumination and nonlinear optimization to enable gigapixel imaging capability for high throughput biomedical applications.
