Ji Yi is focused on developing novel optical techniques for fundamental research and clinical applications. The research includes the development of inverse spectroscopic optical coherence tomography (ISOCT) and metabolic optical coherence tomography applicable in vivo, with ISOCT being sensitive to nanoscale tissue structural changes and metabolic OCT being able to quantify tissue oxygen metabolism. In addition, he develops methods for label-free optical angiography on live animals. He is interested in novel optical endoscopy, super-resolution microscopy for fundamental science, biosensing and computational optics. The clinical applications encompass cancer early detection, eye diseases such as glaucoma, and aging diseases, etc.
