Bio: Henry (Erning) Chen, Ph.D. candidate, has mainly conducted ethnographic research, a method based on observations, interviews, and analysis of community cultures. Chen has developed an interest in this research topic from his experiences as an international student, an ESL teacher, and a user of AI. He was the recipient of 2021 Pardee Summer Fellowship and 2024 Wheelock Graduate Research & Scholarship Award.

Project Title: A Study of Chinese International Doctoral Students’ Use of ChatGPT 

Project Summary: This project will examine the uses of ChatGPT in specific academic tasks and discuss the influence of AI technologies on doctoral education and the language experiences of international students in US higher education.
