The Hariri Institute hosted a student poster session this Wednesday, December 14th from 1-5PM, featuring 35 group projects completed by students enrolled in the “Computational Tools for Data Science” (CS 505) fall course taught by Professor Crovella. Students from CS 505 presented posters describing data-science experiments studies they have conducted.
In collaboration with Boston University’s Reliable Information Systems and Cyber Security Group (RISCS), the Hariri Institute for Computing will be hosting Wendy Gordon (Professor of Law, Boston University) as part of a brown bag lunch series on December 12, 2016 from 1PM – 3 PM (lunch at 12:30 PM).

The Institute is excited to host the second annual Massachusetts Open Cloud Workshop, scheduled to take place on December 6 – 7, 2016. Tuesday’s events will feature technical presentations, insights from MOC users, working group sessions and more; this will be open to all partners and interested parties that register to attend. Wednesday’s events will include an Expo, which will be open to all registrants, as well as additional meetings for project partners (invitation only).
Research funding is something that has been difficult to acquire, and constantly forecasted to stay that way. However, Boston University faculty have defied all odds and secured $368.9 million dollars in outside funding during FY2016. This feat is in great part due to the work of Gloria Waters, vice president and associate provost for research, and the BU Research team.

The City of Boston Analytics Team has announced a new 8-week internship program. The Analytics Summer Fellowship will give students the opportunity to work closely with City leadership and staff to improve how Boston uses data every day. As part of the Department of Innovation and Technology, the Citywide Analytics Team uses data to tackle the City’s biggest challenges and make life better for everyone who lives and works in Boston.
On Friday, November 4th, the Hariri Institute for Computing hosted Frank Pasquale (Professor of Law, University of Maryland) for a Data Science Initiative (DSI) Colloquium in collaboration with the Center for Reliable Information Systems & Cyber Security (RISCS) and BU/MIT Technology & Cyberlaw Clinic.
Azer Bestavros, Hariri Institute Founding Director and Professor of Computer Science, served as a panelist at “The Cities of Tomorrow: How Research and Innovation Can Help Address the U.S. Infrastructure Crises” event, held in Washington, D.C. on October 27th. Hosted by the Information Technology and Innovation Foundation (ITIF), the event discussed research and innovation that has the potential to advance federal policies for smart and connected communities.
