Dr. McGuire’s lab studies the cognitive and neural processes that facilitate human decision making. The lab is especially interested in how decision makers navigate challenging situations that involve delay, uncertainty, or volatility, or that seem to demand self-control.

Research interests: Neural representation of subjective value and economic utility; Self-control, persistence, and delay of gratification; Forming and revising expectations in an uncertain world; Weighing the cost of mental effort
