Two BU Faculty with Hariri Institute Connections Promoted

In a recent article in BU Today, two Boston University faculty with active connections to the Hariri Institute for Computing were recognized for their leadership in their areas of focus. In the article, Jean Morrison, BU Provost and chief academic officer was quoted as saying, “They are forging multidisciplinary collaborations to discover solutions for some of our most pressing challenges.” The recognition promotes the faculty to full professors in the BU community. The faculty with ties to the Hariri Institute include:

Merav Opher

Merav Opher, Professor of Astronomy, CAS
She is a current Research Fellow at the Hariri Institute. Her interests focus on how plasma and magnetic effects reveal themselves in astrophysical and space physics environments. In particular, in how stars interact with the surrounding media, how the solar system interacts with the local interstellar medium, and the interaction of extra-solar planets with their host stars. Her other interests are in how magnetic disturbances are driven and propagate from the Sun to Earth. She uses state-of-the-art 3D computational models to investigate these phenomena.

Evimaria Terzi

Evimaria Terzi, Professor of Computer Science, CAS
She is a current Steering Committee member at the Hariri Institute and former Junior Faculty Fellow. Her current research focuses on data mining with emphasis on social network analysis, analysis of sequential data, ranking, clustering, and bioinformatics. In particular, she is working on problems related to expert identification and team formation in social networks, analysis of online product reviews, and privacy-preserving social network analysis.

Please join us as we congratulate both Evimaria and Merav on their accomplishments and continued success as professors and researchers.
