David Coker Receives Funding from the US Department of Energy
Earlier today David Coker, BU Professor of Chemistry, CAS was awarded funding by the US Department of Energy (DOE) for his work in Quantum Information Science.
The DOE announced $37 million in funding for research in materials and chemistry to advance the field of Quantum Information Science (QIS). QIS is an emerging field that exploits intricate quantum mechanical phenomena. The field began with the thinking of implications in combining quantum mechanics with the classical Turing computing machine and the ability for quantum computing to factor large numbers very efficiently.
Professor Coker’s project entitled “Control of Energy Transport and Transduction in Photosynthetic Down Conversion” was one of only 24 projects awarded funding. The overall goal of the funding is to develop new Quantum Information Systems and to advance research in the material and chemical sciences.
Professor Coker is also the Director of the Center for Computational Science (CCS) at the BU Hariri Institute for Computing. The CCS’s mission is to support collaborations across departments by connecting computational scientists from different areas.
