This past month, Boston University Professors Adam Smith (Professor of Computer Science, CAS), Leonid Reyzin (Professor of Computer Science, CAS) and New York University Professor Yevgeniy Dodis (Professor of Computer Science, CIMS) were honored at this year’s Eurocrypt 2019 held in Darmstadt, Germany, with the 2019 IACR Test-Time-Award.

The IACR Test-of-Time Award is given yearly to honor a publication from 15 years earlier, and that has had a lasting impact on the field of cryptography. Recipients of the award are selected by a committee consisting of three members. The research team’s publication honored at

this year’s event was “Fuzzy Extractors: How to Generate Strong Keys from Biometrics and Other Noisy Data”. It covered efficient techniques for turning biometric information into keys usable for any cryptographic application as well as reliably authenticating biometric data.

Both Professors Adam Smith and Leonid Reyzin are Faculty Research Fellows at the BU Hariri Institute for Computing, where it’s mission is to promote discovery and innovations through the use of computational and data-driven approaches.
