Newly Elected NAS Member Leonid Levin was Recognized by the Hariri Institute and Computer Science

Today colleagues, faculty, staff and friends gathered to honor BU Computer Science Professor Leonid Levin with a reception held at the Hariri Institute for Computing. The event was hosted by both the Institute and BU Computer Science. The event celebrated the recent election of Leonid Levin into the National Academy of Sciences. BU President Robert Brown was also in attendance and as part of the reception, faculty were invited to speak to the group about Professor Levin’s accomplishments, fond memories, and congratulatory remarks. Professors Stan Sclaroff started off the remarks, followed by Professors Ran Canetti, Steve Homer, Margrit Betke and Azer Bestavros.

NAS members are elected to the National Academy of Sciences in recognition of their distinguished and continuing achievements in original research. Membership is a widely accepted mark of excellence in science and is considered one of the highest honors that a scientist can receive. Current NAS membership totals approximately 2,380 members and nearly 485 foreign associates, of whom approximately 190 have received Nobel prizes.
