Hariri Hosts First Annual Massachusetts Open Cloud (MOC) Workshop

On November 19th, the Hariri Institute for Computing hosted the first-annual Massachusetts Open Cloud (MOC) Workshop. The MOC is a new public cloud, designed and implemented in Massachusetts as the first “Open Cloud eXchange” (OCX), a new marketplace for innovation in providing cloud services. The workshop drew more than 100 participants representing the Core Partners (The US Airforce, Brocade, Cisco, Intel, Lenovo, Red Hat, and Two Sigma), faculty, students, and research IT. The day celebrated the first year of this three year project with highlights of the key technical developments and operations. It featured a combination of short micro talks, extended networking breaks, and a poster session. MOC Pl, Orran Krieger, Hariri Institute Founding Director, Azer Bestavros, and more than 20 BU faculty, students, post docs, and members of the MOC technical team gave presentations. The MOC is a collaborative project, led by Boston University with partners from MIT, UMASS Amherst, Northeastern, and Harvard and the Massachusetts Green High Performance Computing Center. It is funded by a grant from the Mass Technology Collaborative, and more than $14 million in donations from industry.
