Mario Teixeira, Hariri Visiting Fellow, Publishes Book on Computer Networks

Mario Teixeira, Hariri Institute for Computing visiting fellow and associate professor at Federal University of Maranhão, has published a book titled, Redes de Computadores: Da Teoria à Prática com NetKit (English translation: Computer Networks: From Theory to Practice using NetKit). Teixeira joined the Institute in March 2014 and holds a PhD in Computer Science from the University of São Paulo, Brazil. His work at the Hariri Institute focuses on networking and VM allocation issues in clouds and on the development of cloud-enabled applications.
This book is a joint effort of professors from three Brazilian Universities, namely the University of São Paulo (USP), Federal University of Maranhão (UFMA), and São Paulo Institute of Technology (IFSP). It was written with a purpose in mind: to be a reference text to support the learning of computer networks in an interesting way, as it objectively outlines computer networks theory and couples this knowledge with specific practical network labs to be carried out via NetKit, an open-source tool used throughout the book. NetKit allows users to create a virtual network inside their own personal computers and experiment with different topologies and several common Internet protocols. This book is the result of material which has been successfully used by the authors, in classroom and lab environments, as an accompanying text to undergraduate computer networks courses.
