Skin cancer detection device developed at BU
Time magazine has named DermaSensor, a device based on technology developed by Professor Irving J. Bigio (BME, ECE), to its list of the “Best Inventions of 2024.” DermaSensor uses elastic scattering spectroscopy and artificial intelligence to examine skin lesions and assess whether a patient should be referred to a specialist. The handheld device is the first of its kind to be cleared by the FDA for use by nonspecialist physicians. Bigio is a scientific advisor to the eponymous company behind the device, which also licensed patents from Bigio and BU.
