Before coming to Boston University in 1992, Hugh Baxter served (in 1991–92) as U.S. Supreme Court law clerk to retired Justice William J. Brennan, Jr. and Justice Harry A. Blackmun. After his first year of teaching (1992–93), Baxter returned to clerk for Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg during her first term at the Supreme Court (1993–94). Since his 1992 appointment at Boston University, Professor Baxter has taught first-year courses in torts, legal philosophy and constitutional law. He also has taught upper-level courses or seminars in legal theory, election law and Supreme Court decision-making. In Spring 2003, Professor Baxter received Boston University’s Michael Melton Award for Teaching Excellence.
