How to Enroll or Make a Change
Follow these steps to enroll in your 2026 BU benefits:

- Have your BU username and Kerberos password on hand to access the secure open enrollment web pages.
- Learn
- Review your 2026 plan options and costs, making use of the education and enrollment materials on this website.
- Please refer to our Frequently Asked Questions page that will review common questions and important terms to know when selecting your health plan options for 2026.
- Plan
- Use the BCBS online tools to learn more and model various plan use scenarios.
- For all employees, use the SmartSelect Tool see which plan is expected to cost you the least amount of money out of pocket by answering just a few simple questions. It’s up to you to decide which health plan option will be the best option for you and your family based on your expected health care use, risk tolerance and budget.
- Use the BCBS online tools to learn more and model various plan use scenarios.
- Enroll
- Log on to BUworks Central. Enter your BU login account and Kerberos password.
- Select BU Benefits Center under the Benefits tab in Employee Self Service.
- Select Open Enrollment on the BU Benefits Center.
- Follow the instructions to enroll in the plans you have selected.
- Review the summary of your elections and your deductions for 2026.
- Be sure to save your elections and print the summary as confirmation. You will also receive a confirmation email in your BU email inbox.
For all health care benefits, you can choose from the following coverage levels. You may choose different coverage levels for medical/prescription drug and dental:
- Employee only
- Employee plus child(ren)
- Employee plus spouse
- Family
Proof of Dependent’s Relationship Required
For all eligible dependents whom you wish to cover under the BU plans, you must provide the following documents:
- Spouse: Marriage certificate (government issued)
- Common Law Spouse: Common law marriage certificate (only for those married in a state that accepts common law marriage)
- Child: Birth certificate or adoption certificate or certificate of live birth
- Stepchild: Birth certificate of child plus marriage certificate of current spouse
- Ward: Court ordered document of legal custody
Coverage for your spouse and/or dependent children will become effective January 1, 2026 only after the proof of relationship documentation for all family members has been received and processed by Human Resources. You have a 60-day period (after the Open Enrollment period ends) in which to submit your documentation.
Family members whose documentation is not submitted within this 60-day period will not be covered. The next opportunity to enroll them for coverage will be a Life or Career Event or the next Open Enrollment period.
