Your next chapter starts here.
Maybe you’re coming straight from undergrad, ready to deepen your expertise before launching your career. Maybe you’ve been working and you’re ready for more—more strategy, more specialized knowledge, more opportunities to lead. Either way, you’re here because you’re ready for what’s next.
That’s exactly what graduate study at Boston University’s College of Communication (COM) is for.
At COM, you don’t just study communication—you practice it. From your first day, you’ll learn alongside faculty who are actively shaping their fields. And you’ll do it in Boston, one of the country’s leading hubs for media, technology, business, healthcare, and innovation.
Whatever your path, every COM program shares the same philosophy: graduate education should prepare you not just to enter your field, but to contribute to it.
Experiential learning by design
A COM degree is designed to be put to work, not filed away. Long before graduation, you’ll be building your résumé, expanding your professional network, and creating a portfolio through client projects, published stories, original productions, research, and hands-on experience.
And you’ll learn from people who know the works firsthand. Our faculty are industry leaders, researchers, journalists, filmmakers, strategists, and entrepreneurs who bring the latest thinking, tools, and practices into the classroom, and help shape the future of their fields.
Learning at COM extends far beyond the classroom door:
- Advertising & Public Relations: Develop campaigns for real clients through our award-winning, student-run agencies, AdLab and PRLab.
- Journalism: Report, produce, and publish stories through the BU Newsroom.
- Film & Television: Create original television and streaming projects, write screenplays, and conduct scholarly research across our graduate programs.
- Media Ventures: Launch a media startup or enterprise brand extension from initial concept to an executive pitch in front of media leaders and investors in Los Angeles.
Communication in the age of AI
Technology, platforms, and workflows will keep changing. But the ability to think critically, understand people, make smart decisions, communicate clearly, and adapt will always matter. At COM, you’ll explore emerging technologies while developing the human-centered skills that organizations value most: leadership, audience insight, critical thinking, and the ability to turn complex information and data into clear, compelling narratives.
I believe this program has given me all the tools to follow my dream, my passion as a researcher and, most importantly, as a business owner. I have a vision with my company, and my clients have a vision to take their companies to the next level. The sky is the limit!
