Employee MBTA Benefits
Introducing Edenred
We are excited to announce an important change to your commuter benefits. Boston University is transitioning management of its MBTA Monthly Pass Benefit and Transit Station Parking Benefit to Edenred, a benefits management company specializing in commuter benefits.
Edenred’s benefit management interface for BU employees is live now.
Webinar Recording – Edenred Info Session for BU Employees
If you were previously enrolled in the Transit Station Parking Benefit
You must re-enroll through Edenred in order to continue receiving the
benefit. You will be mailed an Edenred Benefits Prepaid Mastercard to replace your P&A Card (note: you will still need your P&A Group card if you are enrolled in BU’s Flexible Spending Account for healthcare).
Your remaining balance has been transferred to a transit credit that can be used to pay for MBTA Passes through the university’s subsidized Monthly MBTA Pass Benefit. For more details, please visit our Credit Transfer FAQ.

What kind of pass should I get?
The most popular type of pass is called a LinkPass (unlimited trips on local bus and subway) but the MBTA offers many types of passes.
Use the MBTA Trip Planner to determine which MBTA lines you’ll need to access on your commute.
To find your Commuter Rail Zone, consult the MBTA Commuter Rail Zone Map.

50% subsidized parking at transit stations with the Transit Station Parking Benefit
Regular BU faculty and staff members who order a monthly MBTA pass through Boston University are eligible for the following benefit:
- Set aside pre-tax dollars from your paycheck to pay for your work-related parking costs at MBTA transit stations (up to $80 per month); AND
- BU will match your election dollar-for-dollar (for a total of $160/month)
You will be mailed a benefits card to use at transit station parking facilities. It works like a regular credit card except it can only be used to pay for for parking at transit stations.

Enroll Now select “Fund My Prepaid Card”
Am I eligible to participate?
Enrollment is open to any regular employee enrolled in the Employee MBTA Pass Benefit (see Employee MBTA Pass Benefit eligibility requirements above).
How Do I Enroll?
Before enrolling in the Transit Station Parking Benefit, you must enroll in the MBTA Pass Benefit first (instructions above)
- Follow the directions above to enroll in the MBTA Pass Benefit (instructions above).
- While logged in to Edenred, select “Card” from the top of the screen.
- Select “Order my Card” from the “About My Card” tile
- Select “Parking” (the only option)
- Specify your TOTAL monthly parking need – between $10 and $160 (50% will come from your paycheck, 50% will come from BU)
- Provide your date of birth (DOB is a security question for the benefits card that you will receive)
- Specify whether you want to repeat deductions (default is to repeat monthly) or skip any months.
- Review benefits, agree to terms of service (check box), select “Elect Benefits” (note: follow these instructions to verify/update your mailing address if necessary)
- You’re all done! Your benefits card should arrive by the 1st of your initial benefit month.
The money you elect to be withheld pre-tax as well as a matching dollar amount from the University will be credited to an account in your name to be used to pay for your work-related parking expenses at MBTA transit stations.
How Do I Use Money in My Pre-Tax Transit Station Parking Account?
Edenred administers the program and will provide you with a debit card that can be used to pay for your MBTA transit station parking expenses right at the point of service. When you incur a work-related parking expense at a transit station, simply swipe your Benefits Card at the point-of-service and the funds will automatically be deducted from your pre-tax parking account.
Any unused balance remaining in your Transit Station Parking account at the end of the calendar year will roll over to the next year. This is not a use-it-or-lose-it account like the FSA
If you terminate employment with Boston University, the remaining balance in your Transit Station Parking account will be forfeited. You can continue to pay for parking expenses through the end of the month in which you terminate employment.
Manual Parking Claims
Transit Station Parking should primarily be paid for using the Edenred Benefits Card. If that is not possible, please
contact Edenred Customer Service (888-235-9223 or
ccdcustomerservice@commuterbenefits.com Monday-Friday 8am-8pm Eastern) for instructions on submitting a manual claim for reimbursement. Note: the reimbursement process may take multiple weeks.
