Less Seen/Less Heard: Stories from the Margins is a podcast hosted by the Activist Lab at the School of Public Health, in which experts discuss a range of pressing public health topics.

In the most recent episode, host Craig Andrade, associate dean for practice and director of the Activist Lab, spoke with Charles Daniels, co-founder and chief executive officer of Fathers’ UpLift, a Boston-based organization providing mental health counseling, coaching, and advocacy to strengthen families and assist fathers in overcoming barriers that prevent them from remaining engaged in their children’s lives. The two spoke about the role that fathers play in the lives of their children, the need to normalize mental health care among men and boys, and the importance of building community in order to heal.

On the work of Father’s UpLift, Daniels says, “what we do is not different. It is how we make the men we serve feel. Being a Black man and helping other Black men and people of color see their value, it is incredibly important. We aim to bring humanity back to the people we serve.”
