Student Receives Kinzer Scholarship for Health Administration Leadership.
Jenna Pradhuman, a second-year MPH student, has received the David Kinzer Scholarship from the Massachusetts chapter of the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE). Pradhuman is the third consecutive School of Public Health student to receive the annual award, which the ACHE will present to her on Friday, May 17, during its Spring Conference at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel in Westborough, Mass.
The $1,500 David Kinzer Scholarship symbolizes the legacy and leadership of David M. Kinzer, who served as president of the Massachusetts Hospital Association from 1973 to 1985. It is presented each year to students who demonstrate leadership abilities and active participation in health administration activities, and who are enrolled in their final year of study at a school that is a member of the ACHE’s Higher Education Network.
“I’m truly honored to be receiving this award,” says Pradhuman, who is completing the Healthcare Management certificate at SPH and is preparing to graduate this spring. “I look forward to the Spring Conference and continued involvement with ACHE.”
Pradhuman discovered that she had an interest in healthcare administration while she was an undergraduate student at Union College in New York and working at a comfort care home for terminally ill residents.
“It opened my eyes to a whole other side of health care that you don’t always see if you’re in direct care, so I knew I wanted to explore that more and I dove right in once I started my MPH program,” she says.
As she works towards her MPH, Pradhuman also works as a project coordinator for quality and safety in the Department of Urology at Massachusetts General Hospital. Last year, she served as a strategic MPH consultant for MGH’s International Advisory Services Department. After graduation, she will begin a new position as a project manager in the Process Improvement Division at MGH.
“When I think of Jenna’s best qualities, the words “kind,” “outgoing,” “prepared,” “professional,” and “emerging leader” come immediately to mind,” says Chris Louis, assistant professor of health law, policy & management and program director of the Healthcare Management certificate, who nominated Pradhuman for the scholarship.
The ACHE is an international professional society of 40,000 healthcare executives whose mission is to advance its members and healthcare management excellence. Its network of 78 chapters provides access to networking, education, and career development at the local level.
