Soley-Bori headshotMarina Soley-Bori, a health services research doctoral student, won Best Student Poster Award at the AcademyHealth Annual Research Meeting on June 27.

A poster by SPH doctoral student Judy George was a runner-up for the award, as was another poster by Soley-Bori.

The winning poster by Soley-Bori showed how geographic region and insurance plan are associated with extended care facilities (ECF) use after total hip or knee replacement surgery.

“This study indicates that disparities in ECF exist,” Soley-Bori says. “Subjects living in the Northeast are 2.5 times more likely to use ECFs compared to those living in the South.” She also found patients enrolled in HMOs or Point of Service with capitation were more likely to use ECFs compared to those with any other private insurance plan type.

Soley-Bori says she is honored to be the first Boston University student to receive the Best Student Poster Award from AcademyHealth.

AcademyHealth is a national organization serving the fields of health services and policy research. AcademyHealth brings stakeholders together to address the current and future needs of an evolving health system, inform health policy, and translate evidence into action.

The Annual Research Meeting was held June 25 through 27 in Boston.
