Professor Honored for Innovative Teaching.

Victoria Parker, associate professor and associate chair of health law, policy & management, has been awarded the 2016 SPH Educational Innovation Award.
Parker received the award during the 11th Annual John McCahan Medical Campus Education Day on May 25.
The Educational Innovation Award recognizes unique course design that increases student interest and drives achievement. The award, which includes a $500 cash prize, aims to enhance the status of teaching, encourage innovation, and disseminate good practice.
Parker received the award for her course PH718: Management and Leadership in Public Health, one of the core courses of the new master’s in public health.
“The innovation of PH718 is uniquely new,” wrote Rani Elwy, associate professor of health law, policy & management, in her nomination letter for Parker. “The scope and results are long-term with SPH-wide impact.”
“I for one learned and am still learning from Vicky,” wrote Gouri Gupte, assistant professor of health law, policy & management. “She has been a support for all the innovations that I can bring into the classroom.”
“I am honored and humbled to receive this award,” says Parker. “I’ve also been fortunate to work with many other colleagues, both within and beyond the department, who have created a culture at SPH supportive of innovation.” She says she is especially grateful for the support of David Rosenbloom, whose nearly four years as interim chair of health law, policy & management will end this July.
Also during the 11th Annual John McCahan Medical Campus Education Day, Clinical Assistant Professor of Epidemiology Megan Healey participated in the Dean’s Panel on innovation in teaching, and Travis DiJoseph, education program manager in the global health department, received an award for Best Faculty/Staff Abstract.
