Dean Galea Honored by International Trauma Studies Society.
Dean Sandro Galea received the Robert S. Laufer Award for Outstanding Scientific Achievement from the International Society of Traumatic Stress Studies (ISTSS) on November 11.
The ISTSS presented the award during its 32nd Annual meeting, “Trauma and Public Health: Innovative Technology and Knowledge Dissemination,” in Dallas, Texas.
The Laufer Award recognizes an individual or group who has made an outstanding contribution to research in the field of traumatic stress.
“It’s an honor to receive this award from colleagues who are deeply committed to understanding and mitigating the consequences of traumatic events,” Galea says. “Trauma is ubiquitous. We have aspired in our work to understand how trauma shapes the health of populations, and to illuminate how the study of traumatic events needs to be a core concern of public health. The field has embraced this direction in the past decades; I have been honored to be part of that movement.”
ISTSS is dedicated to sharing information about the effects of trauma and the discovery and dissemination of knowledge about policy, program, and service initiatives that seek to reduce traumatic stressors and their immediate and long-term consequences.
