Alumna Appointed to Abiomed Board of Directors.
Jeannine Rivet (’81), a member of the Dean’s Advisory Board at the School of Public Health, has been appointed to the Board of Directors of Abiomed, Inc.
Based in Danvers, Massachusetts, Abiomed is a leading provider of medical devices that provide circulatory support.
Rivet is currently the executive vice president of UnitedHealth Group Inc. She previously served as the chief executive officer of UnitedHealthCare, Ingenix, and Optum—all UnitedHealth Group companies. Prior to joining UnitedHealth in 1990, Rivet was vice president for group operations at Prudential Insurance in Boston. In addition to a master’s of public health from SPH, Rivet holds a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Boston College and was a registered nurse for several years prior to entering the managed care business.
Rivet was recognized by Fortune Magazine as one of the 50 most powerful women in American business in 1998, 1999, and 2000. She was the recipient of the SPH Distinguished Alumni Award in 1999 and the BU Distinguished Alumni Award in 2005. Rivet has also been recognized by the American Association of Health Plans (AAHP) and Girl Scouts of Minnesota and Wisconsin River Valleys, and was inducted as a fellow into the American Academy of Nursing.
