Working Consultation Session, March 7: A New Service “Using Technology & Informatics in Clinical Research”.
The Office of Clinical Research and the Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSI) now offer the Clinical Research Informatics and Technology Consultation (CRITC) Service for BU/BMC researchers to assist them with use of information technology and informatics to facilitate clinical studies.
Join Christopher Shanahan, MD MPH, to learn more about this new service on Thursday March 7, 12:00-1:00 PM, in R106 during a free 1 hour group session.
The Clinical Research Informatics and Technology Consultation (CRITC) Service provides the following:
1. Consultation on the development and use of information technology and informatics for clinical research studies. Examples include but are not limited to:
· Developing a patient education kiosk for patients in a clinic waiting room
· Development of chronic disease registries for research
· Development and study of mobile applications to improve care
· Development and study of bedside clinical technologies (e.g. wireless monitoring of pulmonary function)
2. Expert assistance with using clinical data for research beyond that already provided by Linda Rosen and the Clinical Research Data Warehouse, including:
· Help selecting the data you need for your study (and IRB application) to get it right the first time
· Help understanding the meaning of data in the Clinical Data Warehouse, including how clinical data get into the warehouse (e.g. is it best to use a diagnosis code or a series of tests and medical history items to identify cases?)
· Use of the electronic medical record to collect information prospectively for research, to make much easier to extract later for your study
Dr. Shanahan is former Medical Director of BMC ITS and current Faculty Lead for BU-Profiles and CTSI Research Networking for BUMC. Open consultations and short-term services are provided free of charge. More extensive consultations will be offered for a fee. You can contact Chris at cshanaha@bu.edu
