Betty Ruth of SSW Named Public Health Social Worker of the Year.
Betty J. Ruth, a clinical associate professor at the Boston University School of Social Work, has been selected to receive the Insley/Evans Public Health Social Worker of the Year Award from the Public Health Social Work Section of the American Public Health Association.
Betty J. Ruth and Leonard GlantzThe award committee recognized Ruth for her years of service to the profession, her trailblazing role as an educator in the field of public health social work, and her steadfast efforts to increasing the number of MSW/MPH dual-degree programs around the country.
Ruth is the director of the dual MSW/MPH program for the School of Social Work, and has worked closely over the years with her BUSPH counterpart, Leonard Glantz. Ruth will be honored at the annual meeting of the American Public Health Association conference in Boston this November.
Ruth chairs the Social Work Ethics department at the School of Social Work and directs the MSW/MPH and Professional Education Programs. Her primary research areas are public health social work training/evaluation and suicide prevention education. She is co-founder of the Group for Public Health Social Work Initiatives, a working group dedicated to public health social work advocacy, training and research.
