Faculty Reminder: October is a Great Time for Mid-Course Evaluations.

Message from Rob Schadt, Office of Teaching, Learning and Technology:

We hope the semester has been going well. We know that time goes all too quickly and that currently mid-term exams are being taken and assessed. This is a good time to get some feedback on how the course is going from the student perspective.

There are several ways to collect student feedback, including simple forms such as “Stop, Start, Continue” which asks students what they would like faculty to do, to discontinue or do less of, and to continue some activity that is helpful for student learning. There is also a survey tool in Blackboard that provides for student responses to an anonymous survey as they would to an online quiz. The results from the survey are available through the Grade Center in Blackboard.

Sample paper-based midcourse surveys as well as prepared online surveys to import into Blackboard are available on the OTLT website. To access these customizable forms and to see a brief video where students speak to the importance of this feedback, click here. It is great to get feedback before it is too late to make constructive changes in the course. For assistance with online surveys contact Rob Schadt at rschadt@bu.edu.
