BUSPH Qualitative Methods Seminar: Negotiating the Focus of a Focus Group.
- Starts: 1:00 pm on Thursday, October 17, 2024
- Ends: 1:50 pm on Thursday, October 17, 2024
"Focus groups are used to elicit views and understandings of certain topics of interest to researchers. They focus on those topics. However, focusing typically comes with a cost of excluding some ways of talking about these topics -and even other topics- that are relevant and likely significant in understanding their views. Focus groups are conversations, topics are negotiated, and there are trade-offs that should be considered when structuring focus group discussions, in both their design in advance and their conduct. The discussion of these methodological issues will be illustrated with an example or two."
The monthly qualitative research methods seminar at BUSPH happens every 3rd Thursday of the month, from 1-1:50pm, starting September 19th. Sign up to join the seminar mailing list below.
