Dear Colleagues,

As we approach the end of the calendar year, I want to share important information about the 2025 Annual Performance Review process for non-represented staff. Although the University will not conduct a merit process this year, performance reviews are still required for all staff hired before November 30, 2025. Reviews will focus on accomplishments and improvements throughout 2025.

Introducing Chart Your Career

This year’s process includes elements of Boston University’s new performance framework, Chart Your Career, which is designed to strengthen the partnership between staff and managers. It incorporates a performance and career portfolio, collaborative goal-setting, and ongoing feedback to support professional development and career exploration.

HR has developed a video, guide, and FAQs to help staff and managers become familiar with the process. These resources will continue to be updated as the University provides additional guidance.

Learning Series Launching in 2026

Beginning in 2026, Chart Your Career will be introduced as a learning series, supported by workshops, tools, and other resources. OD&L will continue to share updates through its newsletter as these materials are rolled out.

A Collaborative University Effort

Chart Your Career is the result of a multi-year, cross-functional effort led by Human Resources and supported by more than 50 colleagues across Boston University. Their work has shaped a forward-looking process that reflects the evolving needs of our community. We are grateful for their dedication and partnership.

Updated Performance Evaluation Form

To support this transition, BU has developed a new performance evaluation form. In addition to documenting 2025 accomplishments and areas for improvement, the form includes a section to establish goals and objectives for the coming year. These goals will help lay the foundation for full adoption of Chart Your Career.

An electronic version of this form will be available for the 2025 cycle, and all managers will be required to use it for non-represented staff reviews.

Key Dates and Deadlines

  • November 30, 2025: Staff hired on or before this date will receive a review.
  • January 8, 2026: Electronic evaluation form becomes available.
  • February 11, 2026: Deadline for completing 2025 performance reviews.

Preparing for the Review Cycle

  • Ensure reporting relationships are up to date in SAP.
  • Reflect on your achievements over the past year and begin identifying goals for 2026.
  • Managers should begin collecting self-assessments; a template is available if needed.
