Alumna to Head Cambridge Health System Geriatrics.

Serena Chao (’04) has been appointed chief of geriatrics for the Cambridge Health Alliance (CHA).

For the past six years, Chao has directed the Boston Medical Center/Boston University School of Medicine Geriatric Medicine Fellowship Program. While a fellow in the program, Chao also completed a master of science degree in epidemiology at the School of Public Health.

“Geriatricians believe that health and well-being encompasses more than the medical management of diseases,” Chao says. “I am excited to join CHA because it shares this core belief and is committed to improving the health of underserved populations.”

CHA is an academic community health system serving Cambridge, Somerville, and Boston’s metro-north region. In addition to her administrative and teaching roles, Chao will practice in both the Elder Service Plan and House Calls, clinical community programs at CHA that enable older adults to maximize their independence and quality of life.
