Bringing a car to campus is discouraged. Parking on campus is extremely limited. Students residing off campus are encouraged to walk, bike, and use public transportation rather than bringing vehicles to campus. Boston University offers many transportation options.
First Year students are not eligible for any type of parking permit.
Students living in campus housing are not eligible for commuter parking options but they may purchase campus resident parking permits.
Students living off-campus in nearby zip codes are not eligible for Flex or Commuter Permits. The following ZIP codes are restricted: 02115, 02116, 02134, 02139, 02163, 02199, 02215, 02446
Overnight parking without a Campus Resident Permit is prohibited.
Parking permits are now managed through BU’s new Transportation Management Portal (TMP) where you can order parking permits, update vehicle information, and pay or appeal parking citations.

Virtual permit tips
– Your BU ID is your backup credential if the system is unable to read your license plate. You may need to “tap” it on the kiosk to enter or exit. BU IDs that have not been replaced since 2012 do not have proximity capability and should be replaced in order to be used as a secondary credential for entry or exit.
– Make sure your information is correct. The new system may not allow you to park if your license plate information on file with PTS is incorrect or out-of-date. Take care when entering license plate information into the Transportation Management Portal and be sure to update vehicle information through the portal if any information changes.
– Having trouble entering or exiting a lot? Press the “assistance” button on the kiosk and someone will get you on your way.
