Pardee Works: Careers in Finance, Economics, and Impact

On October 16, 2025, Pardee Career Services hosted a compelling panel discussion titled “Careers in Money and Impact” as part of the PardeeWorks series. This event brought together Pardee alumni and staff working in finance, economics, and consulting to share firsthand career insights with students interested in international relations.

The panel featured Eugenia Garrisi Terhune, Principal and Account Relationship Manager at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York; Luke Markham, a consultant specializing in energy and sustainability policy at London Economics International; Christina Chekerdjieva, a current intern at the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs; and Jim Paul, Pardee’s Employer Relations Manager and former Director at the U.S. Department of Commerce’s International Trade Administration. The session was moderated by Pardee student and Dean’s Ambassador Kabir Hasan Khan.

Panelists explored how careers in finance, economics, and consulting play critical roles in driving both social and global impact. They emphasized that even if finance and economics are not an immediate focus, these fields can provide valuable tools for future career paths. Eugenia noted that international relations helped her understand diverse customers and address global issues effectively, while Luke highlighted the vast consulting field, encouraging students to identify niches—from international trade to non-profit fundraising—that align with their interests, even if consulting isn’t their first job.

The conversation also spotlighted the importance of strong communication skills, with Luke sharing that his Pardee degree equipped him to write concisely on complex topics. Networking was another key theme, as Eugenia advised students to make themselves known to potential employers even when no positions are currently open.

Christina reflected on her own experience, expressing how networking helped her a great deal in reaching her goals, and noting how her minor in innovation stood out during the hiring process. She also described her internship at the UN as fast-paced and enriching, offering exposure to high-level diplomatic conversations.

Overall, the panel provided valuable guidance for students exploring the intersection of finance, economics, consulting, and global impact, highlighting diverse opportunities and practical advice for navigating these dynamic fields.
