Min Ye Named Interim Director of Center for the Study of the Longer-Range Future

Min Ye, professor of international relations at the Pardee School of Global Studies was announced as the new interim director of the Pardee Center for the Study of the Longer-Range Future. She succeeds Ambassador Jorge Heine who served as the interim director for the last two years. Ye will take over the director responsibilities from July 1, 2025 onwards.

“The Pardee Center is a hub for scholarly research and policy debates and its work benefits the entire BU community and beyond,” said Dean Scott Taylor.  “I am deeply grateful to Professor Ye for her willingness to step up to lead one of Pardee’s most prominent centers. She will not just be a steady hand on the tiller, but as a leading scholar of China, Professor Ye will energize themes of US-China relations and China’s global role within the Pardee Center, and in collaboration with other units, including the Center for the Study of Asia.”

An expert on domestic and global politics as well as on the intersection of economics and security, Ye’s research is shaped around China, India, and regional relations. She has received various prestigious grants and fellowships including the Smith Richardson Foundation Grant, Princeton-Harvard China and the World Program post-doctoral fellowship, and Public Intellectual Program fellowship from the National Committee on the U.S-China Relations.

“Min Ye has a strong research background that makes her well-suited to lead the Pardee Center,” said Timothy Longman, associate dean for Academic Affairs and professor of international relations on Ye’s appointment. “Her work on international political economy and China’s foreign relations is an excellent fit for Pardee.”

Crediting the Pardee Center for advancing her scholarship for nearly two decades and sponsoring the publication of her two books, China Today, China Tomorrow: Domestic Politics, Economy, and Society (2010) and How Immigrants Influence their Homelands (2013), Ye expressed her enthusiasm about having the opportunity to support the center in return.

I’m honored to serve as Director of the Pardee Center for the Study of Longer-Range Future, and I appreciate Dean Scott Taylor’s trust and confidence in appointing me to this important role.” — Professor Min Ye

As the new director, Ye is determined to sustain and enrich Pardee Center’s “strong foundation for excellence, an active network of scholars and affiliates, and a committed audience inspired by its programs and events.”

For her, leading the center translates to being of service to all those associated with the center while assuming the role of master collaborator to broaden the reach and impact of the Pardee’s scholarly community. As an authority on China, she intends to drive high-quality discourses to deepen the understanding of rapidly evolving global relationships and geostrategic competition.

“International relations are not just the purview of statesmen and diplomats; they comprise countless individuals and communities,” she said. “Behind every high-level power play are millions of people impacted, for better or for worse. At the Pardee Center, I hope we can encourage serious, yet thoughtful conversation rooted in a deep care for humanity”.
