Heine Decodes Belt and Road

On October 16, 2023 Amb. Jorge Heine, Research Professor at Boston University’s Frederick S. Pardee School of Global Studies and Interim Director of the Frederick S. Pardee Center for the Study of the Longer-Range Future joined CGTN Europe to highlight the transformative impact of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) on the global South.
Heine outlined three key contributions: a substantial influx of resources, a novel model of South-South cooperation, and a focus on hard development issues such as infrastructure. He emphasized the BRI’s role in fostering economic growth in Asia, Africa, and Latin America. Addressing environmental concerns, Heine noted the BRI’s evolving commitment to green initiatives, particularly in renewable energy. Amid global uncertainties like the conflict in Ukraine and the aftermath of COVID-19, Heine underscored the BRI’s resilience as a development-centric initiative, crucial for the progress and connectivity needs of the global South.
