Ye Discusses Impact of China’s Global Security Initiative
Min Ye, Pardee School Associate Professor of International Relations, was quoted in a Weedenadvisen article on China’s newly proposed Global Security Initiative (GSI) and how it challenges the existing global United States-dominated world order.
The article, titled “Kina bebuder en ny verdensorden (China announces a new world order),” breaks down what GSI is and its impact on geopolitics. According to China, its security initiative is a response to Western missteps on the world stage encapsulated by the current conflict between Russia and Ukraine. While GSI presents an alternative to the U.S.-dominated world order, Ye argues that China does not have the prestige to bring together a solid group of nations to back it. However, GSI does have the potential to undermine U.S. influence on the world stage; as Ye states, “the likely purpose is to undermine American domination in various parts of the world and tear the rug away [from] under American-led initiatives in Asia.”
