Najam Offers Thoughts on Biden-Xi Virtual Summit
Adil Najam, Dean of the Frederick S. Pardee School of Global Studies at Boston University, appeared on PTV News – the news and current affairs channel of PTV, the state broadcaster of Pakistan – ahead of a virtual meeting between United States Presiden Joe Biden and China’s President Xi Jinping to offer his prediction and insights.
Najam suggests that even though the conversation will likely be frank, both the U.S. and China have an interest in maintaining a dialogue as well as ways to collaborate, despite the fact that the two countries have an adversarial relationship. One issue Najam particularly hopes the two superpowers can and should work together on is climate change. He argues that, as the world’s two largest polluters, both countries need to find ways to coordinate climate mitigation efforts.
