Henrik Selin, Boston University, Pardee School

Professor Henrik Selin has been appointed the new Associate Dean for Studies at the Boston University Frederick S. Pardee School of Global Studies with responsibility for all student affairs and services, including both the graduate and undergraduate programs. He follows Professor Robert Loftis, the outgoing Associate Dean, who has announced that he will be retiring at the end of this academic year.

When asked to comment on his appointment, Professor Selin said, “I am honored and excited to take on the position as the next Dean of Studies at the Pardee School. It will be a privilege to work with the faculty, staff, and students to further strengthen the undergraduate and graduate programs in the School.”

In announcing the appointment, Dean Adil Najam of the Pardee School said, “In Henrik Selin, we have been able to tap on a proven leader – a former Director of Graduate Studies at the then Department of International Relations, and an intellectual leader in the field and in organizations related to the study of global environmental policy…I look forward to working with Henrik, and our excellent and remarkably dedicated staff in Student Affairs and Service, in building even further on the advances that Bob [Loftis] has shepherded: in further strengthening our student recruitment, in better providing academic and career support, in deepening faculty-student interactions, and in continuing to be guided by our goal of putting real meaning in being student facing and faculty guided.”

Henrik Selin has been at Boston University since 2004 and his research and teaching focuses on global and regional politics and policy making on environment and sustainable development. His most recent book is EU and Environmental Governance, and he is also the author of Global Governance of Hazardous Chemicals: Challenges of Multilevel Management. He is also the author and co-author of more than four dozen peer reviewed journal articles and book chapters. He also serves as Associate Editor for the journal Global Environmental Politics.
