Dearly Departed: Remembering Sharat Kumar Nambiar

Pardee School senior Sharat Kumar Nambiar, who died December 25 when his car crashed into a tree in Dubai, is being remembered for his academic drive and concern for others.

Sharat Kumar Nambiar, a Pardee School senior who died tragically in a car crash in Dubai in December, will be remembered by his friends and faculty at a campus gathering today, Friday, January 24, 2020 at 4pm, at the Pardee School, 121 Bay State Road.

Sharat (Pardee ’20) was an international relations major at the Pardee School of Global Studies, also pursuing a minor at the Questrom School of Business and back home in Dubai right before what would have been his final semester of undergraduate studies. The car crash in the wee hours of December 25 happened in his Dubai neighborhood and also took the life of his childhood friend and passenger, Rohit Krishnakumar, who attended college in Britain.

In an obituary in BUToday (January 24, 2020), one of his professors, Shamiran Mako grieves, “it’s devastating… My heart is breaking for his parents and his family and friends. I cannot imagine their loss.” His other professors at the Pardee School also remember fondly. Prof. Jayita Sarkar, says “we lost someone who genuinely cared about international relations, a fine young man who could have done much to change the world.” And Prof. Michael Woldemariam recalls how Sharat would meet him often during office hours, “where we would talk about course material and various topics in African politics.”

For his classmates, Melissa Chan (Pardee’20), the fondest memories are of its smiling disposition: ““Everything he said made me smile or laugh.” And his academic advisor, Ashley Glenn, recalls how much he was looking forward to graduation from college: “To him, nothing would stand in his way of walking across that stage. It was going to be a proud moment for him to share with his family.”

Members of the BU community are invited to a gathering remembering Nambiar hosted by the Pardee School of Global Studies today, Friday, January 24, in the Bay State Room at 121 Bay State Road, from 4 to 5 pm.

Individual grief counseling support for students, faculty, and staff will be available at the gathering.
