Goldstein Gives Talk at Conference on Partitioning Ireland

Erik Goldstein, Professor of International Relations and History at the Frederick S. Pardee School of Global Studies at Boston University, gave an April 27, 2019 talk at an international conference held at Boston College on “Partitioning Ireland.”

The conference was held to coincide with the centenary of the Long Committee’s report to the UK Parliament recommending the partition of Ireland. The conference explored the history and legacies of that decision.

Goldstein’s presentation was on “Partition and Peacemaking after the Great War” which placed the Irish events in the wider context of international relations at the time, and why partition emerged as a tool for attempting to resolve ethnic tensions.

Erik Goldstein’s research interests include diplomacy, formulation of national diplomatic strategies, the origins and resolution of armed conflict, and negotiation.
