PGC Hosts 8th Annual Graduate Conference
The Pardee Graduate Council (PGC), the official graduate student organization of the Frederick S. Pardee School of Global Studies at Boston University, hosted the 8th annual Pardee School Graduate Conference on February 22-23, 2019 at 121 Bay State Road.
Rita Kiki Edozie, Associate Dean and Professor of the McCormack Graduate School at the University of Massachusetts Boston, delivered the keynote address of the conference on “Choosing Its (African) Own Partners: Navigating ‘Infantilization’ and Agency in a Post-Liberal World.” The keynote address was followed by a welcome dinner.
Greenwald’s keynote was followed by a full day of panels and discussions on Saturday that covered a range of topics including international affairs, political science, sociology, public health, economics and environmental studies.
The first panel of the day, entitled “Globalization and Diplomacy in the 21st Century,” featured Florian Bodamer, Joseph Stuckey, and Tyler Parker. The panel was moderated by Ambassador Vesko Garcevic, Pardee School Professor of the Practice of International Relations.
The conference continued with a panel entitled “Rethinking the Impact of Ideology in the 21st Century,” featuring Riaz Akbar and Laura Al Bast. The panel was moderated by Amb. Paul Webster Hare, Senior Lecturer at the Pardee School.
The third and final panel of the conference, entitled “Evaluating the Role of Civil Society in the 21st Century,” featured Al Yousef and Ruofan Ma. It was moderated by Joseph Wippl, Professor of the Practice of International Relations at the Pardee School.
The PGC organizes a variety of activities aimed at enriching graduate student life at the Pardee School including discussions with Pardee School faculty, film screenings and social events. Most recently, the PGC organized a “Kindness Week” at the Pardee School to encourage small and large acts of kindness around campus.
