Fewsmith Hosts Delegation From China’s CCTB
Joseph Fewsmith, Professor of International Relations at the Frederick S. Pardee School of Global Studies at Boston University, hosted a delegation from China’s Central Compilation and Translation Bureau (CCTB) led by Deputy Director-General Wei Hashing at the Frederick S. Pardee School of Global Studies at Boston University on September 20, 2017.
Fewsmith and the delegation had a wide-ranging discussion revolving around such topics as the role of think tanks, uncertainties in Sino-US relations, The North Korea issue, THAAD (Terminal High Altitude Area Defense), and soft power.
The Central Compilation and Translation Bureau has recently been designated as a “comprehensive” think tank, and so it will play an even greater role in undertaking research and providing policy advice to the government than it has in the past.
Fewsmith is Professor of International Relations and Political Science at Boston University. He is the author or editor of eight books, including, most recently, The Logic and Limits of Political Reform in China (January 2013). Fewsmith travels to China regularly and is active in the Association for Asian Studies and the American Political Science Association.
