Min Ye, Assistant Professor of International Relations at the Frederick S. Pardee School of Global Studies at Boston University, said that the recently-passed Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) was marketed to voters in part by using fears of the economic might of China.

Ye made the argument in an Oct. 9 article in the international news outlet GB Times entitled “TPP Piles Pressure on China.”

From the text of the article:

Much of the debate has focused on US President Barack Obama’s statement in which he said that the United States, and not countries like China, should “write the rules of global economy”.

“Using China to sell the TPP has been a standard tactic by the US administration. It is not necessary and pushes moderates in China away“, Min Ye, assistant professor of international relations at Boston University, told gbtimes. “I think the TPP should be promoted on its contents and values, not by stoking up the fear of China.”
