Video & Gallery: Celebrating the Pardee School Gift

On February 6, 2014, in celebration of the newly established Frederick S. Pardee School of Global Studies at BU, the BU Alumni Association gathered in Los Angeles to celebrate Mr. Frederick S. Pardee’s continuing generosity to Boston University. Mr. Pardee (SMG’54, GSM’54, Hon.’06) donated $25 million to endow the Pardee School, matching the largest single gift in University history. This gift brought his lifetime giving to BU to almost $40 million, the most of any supporter.

Mr. Pardee attended the celebration, as did many members of the Boston Univesity Board, donors, friends, alumni and faculty. BU President Robert Brown, Provost Jean Morrison, and Dean Virginia Sapiro of the College of Arts and Sciences also attended the event.

The event, introduced by Provost Jean Morrison, began with a panel discussion on the founding theme of the School: Advancing Human Progress. The lively panel discussion (video above) included comments from Prof. Andrew Bacevich (expert in U.S. foreign policy and national security), Prof. Anthony Janetos (authority on climate change and the interaction of land systems with human needs), Prof. Adil Najam (a leader in international development and environmental policy), Prof. Dana Robert (leading scholar in the history of World Christianity and mission), and Prof. Jonathon Simon (authority on global public health).
