Our Department and BU offer a variety of awards and grants to both recognize student achievement and to help enable students to fulfill their full potential. In addition to what’s listed below, you can also see this list of award opportunities at BU.
CAS College Prizes
Each year CAS awards one College Prize in Mathematics or Statistics. Typically, this is awarded to the graduating student with the strongest academic record within the Department of Mathematics and Statistics.
Departmental Prizes
The Department of Mathematics and Statistics awards several prizes each year to graduating students: Academic Excellence in Mathematics, Academic Excellence in Statistics, Community Engagement in Mathematics, and Community Engagement in Statistics. The Academic Excellence Awards were created to recognize students who have strong academic records in their classes. The student with the strongest academic record between the two Academic Excellence Awards, will receive the CAS College Prize in their respective field. The Community Engagement Awards were created to recognize students who had a significant positive impact on the classes they have taken and an overall positive impact on the department during their time at BU.
The Department also awards two prizes to students classified as juniors: Academic Excellence in Mathematics and Academic Excellence in Statistics. These awards were created to recognize junior students who have performed well academically in their areas of study and have made a positive impact on the classes they have taken.
Departmental Travel Grants
The Department of Mathematics and Statistics provides Departmental Travel Grants to a limited number of undergraduates each year to support travel to, and participation in, conferences and workshops. Students from historically excluded groups are strongly encouraged to apply for these funds.
CAS Honors Research Travel Awards
The CAS Honors Research Travel Awards program funds grants of up to $1,000 for travel to conduct research by advanced undergraduates pursuing a BA with honors in any CAS major. These awards recognize outstanding student scholars and enable them to execute Senior Honors Projects that require travel in the course of research.
Inclusion Catalyst Grants
Inclusion Catalyst Grants support creative, collaborative initiatives that generate learning and stimulate efforts to foster inclusive and equitable communities at Boston University. Recipients are awarded grants up to $2,000. All BU students, faculty, and staff are eligible to apply.
