Margaret Beck Receives Inaugural Birman Fellowship

The American Mathematical Society announced that Professor Margaret Beck
has been awarded the inaugural AMS Joan and Joseph Birman Fellowship for
Women Scholars for the 2018-2019 academic year in recognition of her
exceptional research on stability problems in partial differential
equations and spatially-extended, infinite-dimensional dynamical systems.
In particular, she was cited for her research deeveloping invariant
manifold theory for the nonlinear stability and large-time behavior of
solutions to dissipative partial differential equations, such as
reaction-diffusion equations, fluid mechanics equations, and viscous
conservation laws, as well as for the future promise of her outstanding
research program in the fields of dynamical systems and PDEs.
