Shoronda Matthews
Academic Advisor
Dr. Shoronda Erica Matthews is a first generation Guyanese American who grew up in the Poconos in Pennsylvania. She received her B.S. in Neuroscience and Psychology from the University of Scranton and her M.A. in General Psychology from Adelphi University. As an undergraduate and master student, she managed multiple labs, as well as, mentored students on research procedures. In 2022, she earned her Ph.D. in Educational Psychology-Applied Developmental Science from the University of Virginia (UVA). During her time as a PhD student at UVA’s School of Education and Human Development she worked with their Academic Programs and Student Affairs Office, and their Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Office to create programs, spaces, and resources for first generation students to learn about applying for, and navigating graduate school. She always had a passion for providing mentorship to students throughout her undergraduate and graduate education, because of her own personal experience of benefiting from the support and guidance of her mentors. When Shoronda is not working, her free time is spent reading, watching reality TV and documentaries, and interacting with family and friends.
Shoronda is excited about joining the Kilachand community, and looks forward to working with the students, staff, and faculty at Kilachand Honors College.
