Rachel Barrientos

CAS’27 Architectural Studies, Spanish

Hi everyone! My name is Rachel Barrientos (she/her), and I am originally from Chicago, IL. I am a first-generation college student and QuestBridge National Match Scholar, double majoring in Architectural Studies and Spanish in the College of Arts & Sciences. I’m in the class of 2027.

The Kilachand Honors College has been an integral part of my time here at BU, giving me the opportunity to explore academic interests beyond my majors. The unique, interdisciplinary curriculum of KHC was a major factor in my decision to attend BU, as it empowers students to use their education for a purpose greater than themselves.

My first-year KHC courses were especially impactful. The Lived City (KHC RH 105) solidified my passion for architecture, while Studio 2 (KHC ST 112) allowed me to research a topic I am profoundly passionate about: environmental racism in my hometown of Chicago.

With support from my KHC professors and advisors, I had the incredible opportunity to study abroad in Venice, Italy during my sophomore fall semester. I know everyone says studying abroad is life-changing, but it truly was! My time in Venice deepened my love for art and history and gave me some of my best memories as a BU student. I loved it so much that I’m already looking into going abroad again next year!

On campus, I’m involved with the Undergraduate Architecture Association, Alianza Latina, IMPACT, and as a Senator in BU Student Government. I have also worked as a tutor for the Intergenerational Literacy Program (ILP) and at the BU Transportation Office.

Outside of academics, I’m a huge sports fan (especially soccer), love playing tennis, hiking, visiting museums, reading, drawing, and cooking.

Feel free to reach out if you have any questions about BU, Kilachand, QuestBridge, study abroad, or anything else—I am more than happy to help!
