Event Description: Several states, such as Texas and Mississippi, have put in place stringent legal restrictions on abortion. Do these actions violate constitutional rights? The Supreme Court will decide. In this event, Shirley Cassin Woodward, an attorney and former law clerk to Justice Sandra Day O’Connor, will explain the issues confronting the Supreme Court.

About Shirley Woodward
Shirley Woodward practiced law for 15 years with the law firm of Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr LLP (WilmerHale), specializing in appellate and Supreme Court litigation.
From 2004 to 2005, she served as Associate General Counsel and Chief Iraq Investigator for the Presidential Commission on the Intelligence Capabilities of the U.S. Regarding Weapons of Mass Destruction.
Prior to serving at WilmerHale, Ms. Woodward was a law clerk for Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O’Connor from 1999 to 2000 and Judge Laurence Silberman of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit from 1998 to 1999.
She served as an Intelligence Operations Officer at the CIA from 1985 to 1997 and was a Military Intelligence Specialist in the U.S. Army Reserve from 1982 to 1988.
Ms. Woodward received a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin and a J.D. from the Georgetown University Law Center.
