Location: Meet at Kilachand Hall (we will be transporting to Haley House together)
91 Bay State Rd, Boston, MA 02215
Event Description: Join a small group of peers at Haley House for the Soup Kitchen shift. We will meet at Kilachand Hall and travel together to Haley House, where you will have an opportunity to prepare, cook and serve a meal for guests, and clean up after the meal. During breaks, you will have an opportunity to share the meal and chat with guests.
Please note this opportunity is limited to 6 students – please only sign up if you are certain you can attend given Haley House is counting on volunteers to be there. Due to limited availability, students may register for one Soup Kitchen shift, though additional opportunities may become available in the future.
Kilachand will cover MBTA transportation costs from Kilachand Hall to Haley House.
Mandatory Attire: Closed-toe shoes, long pants, shirt with sleeves, and a head covering (hat, bandana, etc.). Please note that if you have any difficulty obtaining any of these items, reach out at least 1 week in advance so that we can supply them for you.
Attendance: Following the event, students will be asked to fill out a post-event survey. You must fill out this survey to earn co-curricular attendance credit for this event. Students will only receive one (1) co-curricular credit for Haley House shifts each semester.
More about Haley House
Haley House uses food with purpose and the power of community to break down barriers between people, empower individuals, and strengthen neighborhoods. We believe in radical solutions: solving problems at their root by challenging attitudes that perpetuate suffering and building alternative models. Founded as a “house of hospitality” in 1966, Haley House has grown into a multifaceted organization deeply rooted in South End and Roxbury.
