Become a Student Leader
Kilachand Honors College strives to engage students inside and outside of the classroom. We encourage students to become Peer Mentors, Kilachand Ambassadors, and members of KLAB. Kilachand Honors College student groups give Kilachand students the opportunity to engage with peers and administrators in Kilachand, hold leadership positions, and represent Kilachand outside of the College.

KLAB
Kilachand Leadership Advisory Board
The Kilachand Leadership Advisory Board (KLAB) is an initiative that was developed in the spring of 2017 to facilitate communication between Kilachand administration and students. Led by Professor Holt, the group is composed 3 representatives from each class year and 2 co-chair executives. KLAB is responsible for voicing the suggestions of Kilachand students, planning activities or community events each semester, generating new and fresh ideas for the college, and responding to policy and curricular changes.
To join KLAB, students are nominated and elected by their peers. The Kilachand community holds KLAB elections each winter. Nominations are due before Thanksgiving Break and voting takes place before the end of Fall classes. All KLAB members earn their seats through ranked-choice voting.
KLAB meets weekly throughout the school year on Wednesdays from 6-7 pm.

Peer Mentors
Kilachand Peer Mentor Program
The Kilachand Peer Mentors help first-year Kilachand students navigate their college experience, areas of academic interest and the Kilachand curriculum. All first-year Kilachand students are assigned a student mentor, ideally in their major or area of academic interest. The mentors are a valuable resource as Kilachand first-year students begin their academic careers at Boston University. This is a unique opportunity for students to share their experiences, and campus resources with their mentees. These relationships will serve as a foundation for the Kilachand community.
Peer Mentors provide information about Kilachand Honors College and guidance to new students. The responsibilities of a mentor include mandatory participation in the following:
-
Serve as an energetic and enthusiastic mentor to help first year students succeed at Kilachand and Boston University.
-
Develop and maintain relationships with assigned mentees.
-
Attend four mandatory training meetings, that occur between May-September. Two will be in person and two will be virtual.
- Attend a Terriers Connect Training in Fall 2025
- Attend the Peer Mentor Meet & Greet event during Week of Welcome in the first week of September.
-
Attend all Peer Mentor Study breaks.
-
Serve as remote guides for your advisees this summer.
-
Communicate with each of your advisees via e-mail at specific times this summer starting in July.

With poise and alacrity, Ambassadors share their enthusiasm for Kilachand and Boston University with prospective and admitted students and their families. Ambassadors connect with prospective students through email, and most importantly, during virtual and in-person Kilachand events. As liaisons between Kilachand Honors College and visitors, Ambassadors are fundamental to Kilachand’s recruitment efforts and community.
