Event Description: KHC Postdoc Dr. Can Evran and Assistant Director Chris Rominger will give a short presentation followed by questions and discussion on the ethical questions concerning spectacle sports, violence, injury, harm, and leisure.

About Dr. Can Evren (Kilachand Postdoctoral Associate)

Can Evren studies how professional sports cultures serve as public spheres for the construction of political cultures and ideas. His book project examines how the culture professional men’s soccer constructs democratic and commercial visions of the nation-state in Turkey and dramatizes conflicts between nationalism and globalization. He received a PhD in Cultural Anthropology from Duke University in 2020.

About Dr. Chris Rominger (Assistant Director for Curricular and Pedagogical Innovation)

Dr. Chris Rominger is an educator and historian born and raised in Brooklyn, NY. At BU’s Kilachand Honors College, he teaches and supports a variety of projects and programs, from curriculum development and coordinating Keystone Projects to supporting teams of faculty and postdoctoral fellows in their interdisciplinary work. Rominger comes to Kilachand from the University of North Florida, where he was Assistant Professor of History and taught courses on modern Middle Eastern, North African, and Mediterranean histories.
